Learn about Rock Robotics, our mission, and what drives us as a FIRST Tech Challenge team.
Rock Robotics exists to inspire young people through hands-on STEM experiences in competitive robotics. We believe that every student, regardless of background, deserves the opportunity to discover engineering, programming, and teamwork.
As a FIRST Tech Challenge team, we design, build, and program robots to compete in annual challenges while developing leadership skills, technical expertise, and a commitment to giving back to our community.
Our name reflects our commitment: we are solid, dependable, and ready to build something lasting. Rock Robotics is here to stay.
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a global robotics organization founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen. FIRST's mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in mentor-based programs that build STEM skills, inspire innovation, and foster well-rounded life capabilities.
FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) is one of four FIRST programs. In FTC, teams of up to 15 students in grades 7-12 are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge format. Teams also must raise funds, design and market their team, and do community outreach to earn specific awards.
FIRST reaches over 679,000 students worldwide across its four programs: FIRST LEGO League Discover, FIRST LEGO League, FIRST Tech Challenge, and FIRST Robotics Competition.
From registration to competition, follow our path as a FIRST Tech Challenge team.
Rock Robotics was officially registered as FTC Team 35806. A group of passionate students came together with the shared goal of competing in FIRST Tech Challenge.
Our first competitive season. We designed and built our inaugural robot to compete in the INTO THE DEEP challenge, learning the fundamentals of robot design, programming, and competition strategy.
We are committed to growing as engineers, competitors, and community members. Each season brings new challenges, new opportunities, and new ways to make an impact.
The core values are the cornerstones of the FIRST programs and are among the fundamental elements that distinguish FIRST from other youth organizations.
We explore new skills and ideas.
We use creativity and persistence to solve problems.
We apply what we learn to improve our world.
We respect each other and embrace our differences.
We are stronger when we work together.
We enjoy and celebrate what we do.
